HOW TO PUT ON A BRA: A COMPLETE GUIDE

Putting on a bra might seem straightforward, but if you've ever dealt with straps that dig in, discomfort from the band, or a noticeable drop in support, you might want to listen up.

At Boux Avenue, our bras are designed to fit and flatter every body. To help you keep your bras looking beautiful and staying supportive, we've created a step-by-step guide to help you put on and take off a bra the right way, ensuring the perfect fit and ultimate comfort all day long.

HOW TO PUT A BRA ON… PROPERLY

There is no one right way of putting on a bra. However, you might find that your bra looks and feels better if you follow these tips - and they’ll also keep your bra in tip-top condition, too:

  • Step one: Choose the right bra
Start with a bra that fits well and suits your body type. If you're not sure, our bra fit finder can help you find the best match, plus we also offer free and expert bra fittings in-store. The right bra should sit snugly without digging in, offering comfort and support for your shape.

  • Step two: Slide your arms through the straps
The best way to put on a bra is to slip your arms through the straps, keeping the clasp positioned at the back. (It’s worth noting that if it’s more accessible for you to fasten at the front, then absolutely do what feels right for you!)

  • Step three: Fasten the hooks
Reach behind to fasten the hooks. Place your thumb on one side of the clasp and your forefinger on the other. Fasten the clasp onto a hook that feels snug, but not tight. This helps secure your bra (and your bust) in place, ensuring all-day comfort.

  • Step four: Adjust the band and position the cups
Once the bra is hooked, adjust the band so it sits smoothly under your boobs. Arrange the cups so that they fit comfortably over your bust without gaps or overflow. Not only does this create a natural shape and added comfort, but it'll look smoother beneath your outfits, too.

  • Step five: Adjust the straps
Finally, adjust the straps for a secure fit. They should support you without digging in or slipping off your shoulders. And voilà, you're ready to go!

WHAT NOT TO DO WHEN PUTTING ON A BRA

While it may feel easier to fasten your bra in the front and twist it around, it can cause issues over time. If you can, try to avoid:

  • Twisting the band: Twisting your bra to fasten it can strain the elastic and cause wear and tear, especially for bras with silicone or underwiring. As the bra becomes misshapen from the twisting, you might notice that it offers less support and isn't as comfortable.

  • Skipping proper adjustment: Taking the time to position the cups and adjust the straps is key to getting the most out of your bra. If you don't, the bra may not fit or support you as intended.

By avoiding these habits, you can help your bra last longer and keep its supportive shape. For more on caring for your bras, check out our Bra Care Guide.

HOW TO TAKE OFF A BRA

This one is pretty simple, and it feels good too! Reach around with your thumb and forefinger and unclasp the hooks at the back. Avoid pulling the straps down or tugging the bra over your head, as this can stretch out the straps and band.

We believe that your favourite bra should last for years. And it will, as long as you take the best possible care of it. For more tips, check out our Bra Care Guide.
