HOW OFTEN TO CHANGE YOUR PYJAMAS

We’re all familiar with what a normal cleaning routine looks like for your hair, face, and everyday clothing, but when it comes to how often you should wash pyjamas, we might be falling into some bad, and unsanitary, habits.

In fact, some of us are waiting far too long to wash our pyjamas! Our easy-to-follow guide will give you tips and advice on how to improve your nightwear hygiene.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO WASH YOUR PYJAMAS?

But first, why is it so important to wash our pyjamas after a certain amount of wear?

Pyjamas are the only intimates we wear multiple times before washing them (you wouldn’t wear the same knickers day after day), but the warm bedroom environment and close contact with the skin can make them a breeding ground for bacteria.

When we leave pyjamas unwashed for too long, it creates bad odours and can even cause skin irritation and issues such as acne or even an infection. So, no matter how much we love our favourite pair of PJs, it’s in our best interest to induct a healthy sleepwear rotation into our routine.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU WASH YOUR PYJAMAS?

We’re all guilty of wearing our PJs for a few nights too long, but you might be surprised at exactly how often you should be changing your pyjamas.

It’s recommended to wear your pyjamas up to 3 to 4 nights before putting them through a wash. During the hot summer nights, you may need to shorten this amount of time due to the increased amount of sweat your body will produce.

We’d suggest choosing three or four pyjama sets to have on rotation, to save you from having to load the washing too frequently. Showering before bed could also prolong your pyjamas’ wear.

And don’t forget to include loungewear in your laundry cycle, especially if you tend to relax in your PJs for several hours before heading to bed.

HOW TO WASH PYJAMAS

It's crucial to review the care labels on your pyjamas, as you would with any clothing, before washing them. Many pyjamas are made from delicate materials like silk or linen, and using the wrong wash setting can result in damage or even ruin the fabric.
